Your "^I" is the "<tab>" character.

If you are using "vi":
:%s/<tab>//g

If you are in the unix prompt:
sed 's/<tab>//g' inp_file

Yes it is probably too cryptic, which is because it was a bit of a challenge to see if it could be done shorter, all in good fun ;) but quite a bit less readable then Radoulov's version..

Anyway....

With the GNU date:
