Try adding this between DIR= and for: ls...

Try adding this between DIR= and for:
ls $DIR/*.jpg >/dev/null 2>&1
if [ $? == 0 ]; then
and append following to the end of your script:
else
echo "No jpg files in $DIR"
fi
