Driver, can you refresh my memory as to the subject of the thread? I gather that you didn't like something about the thread. It's quite possible that another moderator shared your view and deleted the thread.

Still, suv could have deleted the thread. I'm not sure that's a good thing. But it may be hard to allow the first post to be deleted while keeping the rest of the thread. I'm not sure how hard it would be.

Implementing a change to the site like this would involve work by Neo. This gives him the final word on any such changes.

I think that I remember the thread now. Actually I was not fond of that thread because it had a goofy poll associated with it. As a mod, I have no way to remove the poll while leaving the post. I actually considered deleting the thread, but I just closed the poll instead.

I deleted the thread because of the goofy, useless poll. It is not possible to delete just the goofy polls, unfortuately.

Sorry for any confusion. I'm the guilty one. Sorry Driver.... the poll was the problem.

Well, my thoughts are that there is no perfect answer. We just do the best we can and try to keep the train running, so to speak.

With regards to disallowing the OP to delete their own posts, that sounds like a good idea.

I'll change the settings so registered users (except for mods) cannot delete their own theads or posts and see how that works.

OK, I'll change it to where posts can be deleted, but not threads, by registered users.
