Mac 101: Change Your Icons

Every volume, application, file, and folder on your Mac is represented by an icon. Volume icons tend to look like the item that they represent, for example, your hard disk looks like a hard drive, CDs and DVDs look like discs, and removable drives look like removable drives.

DeskLaunch is a small utility for creating desktop icons. A simple click will launch the desired application. You need to create a file called .desklaunchrc in your home directory. FILES
${HOME}/.desklaunchrc EXAMPLE RCFILE
icon=5:5:/usr/share/pixmaps/xterm.xpm:XTerm:xterm icon=5:5:/usr/share/pixmaps/netscape.xpm:Netscape:netscape The format of the file is: icon=x:y:xpm_image:tooltip:command where x:y is the position of the icon xpm_image is the /path/to/pixmap tooltip is the name of the icon launchers and command is the command to execute once clicked.
