Hi all,

i'm syncing two raid sets together using "rsync -avE --delete" i build the two raid sets identical to each other using storenext , however when i let the script run a couple of times my destination is about 300 GB larger then my source.
i run the command as root on a 10.5.6 Xserve and don't get any errors, however it's hard for me to actually trust my backup when they are not exactly identical.
does somebody have an idea what it might be? it can't be block sizes or any other storage config thing. maybe rsync doesn't delete some files properly?

Since you specified verbose (-v) you should know why there is a size difference.

But seriously. If the backup record is maintained (output the verbose data to file) then you can diff the specific backup reports and determine where the backups are going strange.

Don't forget to capture execution errors for the call to rsync. Theoretically, simple execution errors would be written to your system.log, but...

Are the two raid set backups completely separate operations?

thanks for the reply , i'm not sure if i fully understand what files i should compare , my output log in first instance but compare it to what file?
the only that these raid sets share is the metadatacontroller.
