I use gentoo on my desktop pc at work and slackware on my sony vaio

both are great, I also tried debian and ubuntu several times, but I've always destroyed the package system

I cannot recommend gentoo for older systems, it took me two days to compile gnome + X on a pentium3 500

I use Ubuntu on my newly built deaktop and on my Thinkpad X24.
I use OS X 10.4 on my 2 PowerMacs (PPC) and on my 2 PowerBooks.

Me too. I remember using Mandrake... it was so outraged that I'd upgraded my kernel without permission that it refused to install anything ever again. Gentoo didn't miss a beat.

SuSe Because you can find a lot of programs in there and Red Hat i suggest

I like Gentoo for the learning experience and Ubuntu when I feel lazy and want my OS to work out of the box.

Completely agree. I started on Gentoo and it was great and still use it on most of my systems. I'll use Ubuntu on laptops or on friends computers that want to learn linux but I don't want bugging my with questions every day.

I'm glad Ubuntu is around because as many packages become more user friendly it really opens up linux to a whole new world of users. I just wish that some of those users would learn a bit more about linux and the linux community as I've heard rediculous statements like "I don't use linux, I use Ubuntu".

My favorite is Frugalware.
It's simple but easy, has very nice build-files + package system, and up2date packages and seems stable in the -current branch.
