I'm running a somewhat stripped down vim mostly for editing tasks, for the more complex ones I run emacs, and for some special editing jobs ed or se.

The vim is interesting an not only as a convenient editor
but also as a tool with its built-in programming language on which programs can be written.
It's fun, I apologize for offtopic, I remembered the joke:
"I've been using Vim for about 2 years now, mostly because I can't figure out how to exit it."

this might be true for good ol' Billy Joy ex-vi, but not for Brams vim. Just type in help. Already the first page shows how to exit vim.

I'm a GNU Emacs kind of guy; my nerd pride and joy is my autographed copy of the manual from Richard Stallman Smilie

you are welcome, Brother.
I run both, Richard's emacs and Bram's vim, as I mentioned above. Both are very sophisticated editors, lisp machines, operating systems, or whatever. No wonder any javascript web based tool has no chance in *nix. ;-)

Emacs is my fave, but I have no interested in installing it on 1000 servers, so I just use it on my main servers, then use vim on the rest.

What - no one likes ed?

I use vi as most people do, by the look if it! My rationale was, if I can use vi well I can administer any Unix system.
