I use gedit for quicker scripts and I use it from the menus. Jedit is great for searching large log files but I use vim if calling a editor from a terminal. I used to use textpad on
windows all the time but now I'm using ubuntu I mainly use gedit and vim

I recently discovered that there is a windows port of gedit - really made my day Smilie

poor little pico with only 34
for Linux shell I only use pico as that is what I started with and the others I get lost.

For Windows I couldn't go on living without Notepad++ and UltraEdit Smilie

For Mac TextMate best found so far, but not it's not mad love

The editor
I really use gedit or vi.
I only know just the basic commands with vi. Just enough to make it work.
If the gui crashes, then vi is only alternative.

I use nano because:
  • I find it easy to use.
  • It is text-mode.
  • It comes with Debian and derivatives.
  • It is light.

When I use a graphical editor, I use gedit.

Hello everybody, My question is: how to add /tmp/work at the end of line in vi editor. my file looks like: cp file1 cp file2 cp file3 **** I need to add " /tmp/work" at the end of each line. I tried this :%s/$/" /tmp/work" and this :%s/$/\ /tmp/work\/ but it does not work. (2 Replies)
