How to replace & with and in tab separated file?

Hi,
I have a tab separated. I want to replace all the "&" in 8th column of the file with "and" .I am trying with
HTML Code:
awk -F, -vOFS=\\t '{$8=($8=="&")?"and":$8}1' test> test1.txt
My file is
HTML Code:
abc	def	ghk	hjk	lkm	hgb	jkluy acvf & bhj	hihuhu	fgg
me	mine	he	her	go	went	has	has & had	hgf	hgy
o/p should be
Code:
abc	def	ghk	hjk	lkm	hgb	jkluy acvf and bhj	hihuhu	fgg
me	mine	he	her	go	went	has	has and had	hgf	hgy

There are no commas in the file - why do you use -F, as input field separator?
There is missing a tab in your input example in front of "acvf..." which makes $8 to $7 in the 1st line. Anyway:

Code:
$ awk -F"\t" '{sub(/\&/,"and",$8); print}' OFS="\t" infile2
abc def ghk hjk lkm hgb jkluy acvf and bhj hihuhu fgg
me mine he her go went has has and had hgf hgy
