Can I retrieve 'My Office' folder on EeePC901?

I have a problem with my netbook (Linux o.s.) I was deleting a few photos from inside 'My Office' folder when entire folder disappeared. Not just the files, the entire folder. This has never happened before and I have lost the files I was working on, as I carelessly didn't 'back up' as I went along. Can I retrieve the folder and/or contents, even with my limited computer knowledge? Thank you for any advice.

Possibly. No one can give you an informed response without knowing (at the very least) the filesystem involved.

Regards and welcome to the forum,

the only free option that I know of is 'photorec' from 'testdisk'. it can recover from various filesystems including ext. if the documents are important, make a full backup of that partition with 'dd' first. you can try retrieving text from raw dd image manually, too.

Thank you

Thank you so much Alister and Orange 47 for your kind welcome to the web site, and for taking the time to reply to my enquiry. It is greatly appreciated. I realise I am totally out of my depth with this despite having used computers for some years and usually being able to handle run-of-the-mill problems, so I have handed my netbook over to a local computer expert. I gather that the 'system' partition is 100% full, which I was sure it wasn't, and that I'm unlikely to get my files back. Most of them were backed up, but one important one wasn't. Shouldn't work on computers when I'm too tired to think straight. Thanks again!
