How to open/view a file with .r extension?

i don't have HPUX handy to check, but see here, it may help. Can you "cat" the file, is it binary or ascii, did you run "file file-name.r" against it ?

On running cat, its giving junk data. and "file filename.r" is giving "data"

Its most probably a ratfor file (Fortran preprocessor) but could also be a .r resource file for Pegasus mail
