How to get ID from text file?
Hello All,

I have one text file like below:-
================
USER_CONCURRENT_PROGRAM_NAME REQUEST_ID
----------------------------------- ----------
QFEQAP Payables Remittance Advice 29996305


How do I get only the number 29996305 from the above record.

Hello,

Let us assume this output is saved to a file name test then we can use the following command for same.

cat test | awk '{print$5}'


This code will show the deired Output as per your reqiurment. Kindly check the same and let me know if I can help more, will be grateful to do so.

$ awk 'NR>2{print $5}' file
29996305

A ksh way:-

cut -f5 file|while read val
do
   :          # Just evaluates to true, so no action.
done
echo $val

Probably a little inefficient though if you are planning on a larger file.

Not all awk implementations allow for this construct; with some, $5 is undefined in the END section:

awk 'END{print $5}' file
29996305

or:

tail -n1 file| cut -d" " -f 5
29996305
