paste - merge lines of files
SYNOPSIS
paste [OPTION]... [FILE]...
DESCRIPTION
Write lines consisting of the sequentially corresponding lines from each FILE, separated by TABs, to standard output.
With no FILE, or when FILE is -, read standard input.
Mandatory arguments to long options are mandatory for short options too.
-d, --delimiters=LIST
reuse characters from LIST instead of TABs
-s, --serial
paste one file at a time instead of in parallel
-z, --zero-terminated
line delimiter is NUL, not newline
--help display this help and exit
--version
output version information and exit

I have a big file like this:
BBR 0004186 916 H $$a

BBR 0035481 916 H $$a
I would like to add globally a senetence :
BBR 0004186 916 H $$a new acquisition

I have MBP (Macbook Pro) and when launching X11 xterm I noticed the paste button is greyed out and so you can't paste. Is there any alternative to paste in X11? I am working with a file that has some of the records broken into several lines, I need paste the pieces back into one line. i want to PASTE two files, with a delimiter in between, using awk and pipe the output to another file. i am able to achive the reqirement using PASTE command. but it has a limitation of length till 511 bytes.
