iconv_strlen - Returns the character count of string

SYNOPSIS
int iconv_strlen (string $str, [string $charset = ini_get("iconv.internal_encoding")]) DESCRIPTION
In contrast to strlen(3), iconv_strlen(3) counts the occurrences of characters in the given byte sequence $str on the basis of the speci- fied character set, the result of which is not necessarily identical to the length of the string in byte. PARAMETERS
o $str - The string. o $charset - If $charset parameter is omitted, $str is assumed to be encoded in iconv.internal_encoding. RETURN VALUES

Note strlen(3) returns the number of bytes rather than the number of characters in a string. Note strlen(3) returns NULL when executed on arrays, and an E_WARNING level error is emitted. SEE ALSO
