Unix OS

I have looked into it on the internet elsewhere, and I cannot find out how to get a computer to run "UNIX" besided linux or bsd. Is bsd usualy the kind of unix that people run? Can a pc run unix? If so, how do you get it?

Thanks in advance.

no; it is only one flavor and a matter of preference.

yes; BSD, Solaris, Linux, etc.

Order a set of CDs or download and burn your own CDs and install like any other PC O/S.

You didn't answer my question. I am confused on whether unix is an operating system, as opposed to bsd. What is the difference? I have read your faq so I know unix is a trademark of some company, and so bsd cannot say it is "unix". I have read elsewhere (namebase.org to be exact) that there are commercial versions of unix. What exact OS would that be talking about?

schimpfinator, the faq article and the threads linked to it represents our best effort to explain the concept of a family of operating systems. If you still don't get it, then we have failed you. This site is intended to provide help to people who use unix. It is not intended for people who don't know what unix is. We are just spinning our wheels, so I will close this thread.
