split bus mode

Hi there,

I have two SunBlade 2000s that I want to connect to a single D1000. I am told that I need to do a split bus mode. I don't really understand what that means. Does that mean that half of the storage disks will be assigned to one host and the others to the other host? How do I get that accomplished? I have already connected the SCSI cables on both hosts from the D1000, now do you guys know what the next step is? Please help. Thank you!

you are done.... one cable from each host to each half on the d1000. and don't forget to use a terminator (active) for each bus. also you need hvd scsi controller in your blades to connect them to a d1000. the blades have only se scsi controller onboard!
if this is done, just run "devfsadm" on your hosts to make the disks visible. maybe you need to edit the file /kernel/drv/sd.conf to have more lun's on your system.

When I looked at sd.conf on both hosts, I see that they are both targetted at 7. Should I change one of them to be different? After I connected both SunBlades to the D1000, I did try devfsadm but the disks do not show up. Am I missing something here?

can u see the disks at the "ok" prompt?

ok setenv auto-boot? false
ok reset-all
ok probe-scsi-all

if you don't see the disks there, you might not have the right scsi controller in your hosts.

When I did probe-scsi-all, what I got is the following.

{0} ok probe-scsi-all
/pci@8,600000/SUNW,qlc@4
LiD HA LUN --- Port WWN --- ----- Disk description -----
1 1 0 2100000c50ab7ed5 SEAGATE ST136403FSUN36G 144A

/pci@8,700000/scsi@6,1

/pci@8,700000/scsi@6
Target 6
Unit 0 Removable Read Only device TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M14011009

Earlier I changed host 1's scsi-initiator-id to 6 and the other one (host 2) remained 7. When I logged back in and did devfsadm, I saw no difference so i changed host 1's scsi-initiator-id back to 7.

and you are sure you have the right scsi controller? post the output of "prtdiag -v".

For host 2 as an example, this is what I got.
