yppoll - query NIS server for information about NIS map
SYNOPSIS
host] domain] mapname
Remarks
The Network Information Service (NIS) was formerly known as Yellow Pages (YP). Although the name has changed, the functionality of the
service remains the same.
DESCRIPTION
asks a Network Information Service (NIS) server process (see ypserv(1M)) to return the order number (the in seconds when the map was built
(see time(2)) and master NIS server's host name for a NIS database named mapname. then writes them to standard output.
See ypfiles(4) and ypserv(1M) for an overview of Network Information Service.
Options
Ask the process on host to return the map information (see ypserv(1M)). If is not specified, the host returned by is used (see
ypwhich(1)).
Use domain instead of the domain returned by (see domainname(1)).
WARNINGS
Starting with ONCplus version B.11.31.02, the NIS Version 1 protocol is no longer available.

SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/yppoll [-d ypdomain] [-h host] mapname
DESCRIPTION
The yppoll command asks a ypserv() process what the order number is, and which host is the master NIS server for the named map.
OPTIONS -d ypdomain Use ypdomain instead of the default domain.
-h host Ask the ypserv process at host about the map parameters. If host is not specified, the NIS server for the local
host is used. That is, the default host is the one returned by ypwhich(1).

I have a Sun box that I am trying to get started up, but everytime it will crap out because it is bound to an NIS domain that no longer exists. The Master for that domain was put out of commission. It was suggested to me that I could boot off of the Installation cd for the OS (Solaris 8) and... (4 Replies)
