BSDE_GET_RULE_COUNT(3) BSD Library Functions Manual BSDE_GET_RULE_COUNT(3)NAME
bsde_get_rule_count, bsde_get_rule_slots -- file system firewall statistics
LIBRARY
File System Firewall Interface Library (libugidfw, -lugidfw)
SYNOPSIS
#include <ugidfw.h>
int
bsde_get_rule_count(size_t errlen, char *errstr);
int
bsde_get_rule_slots(size_t errlen, char *errstr);
DESCRIPTION
The bsde_get_rule_count() and bsde_get_rule_slots() functions return the total number of enforced rules and the total number of used rule
slots, respectively. If an error occurs, *errstr is filled in with the error string (up to errlen characters, including the terminating
NUL).
RETURN VALUES
The bsde_get_rule_count() and bsde_get_rule_slots() functions return the number of enforced rules and rule slots (respectively) if success-
ful; otherwise the value -1 is returned and the value of *errstr is filled in as documented in DESCRIPTION.

BSDE_PARSE_RULE(3) BSD Library Functions Manual BSDE_PARSE_RULE(3)NAME
bsde_parse_rule, bsde_parse_rule_string -- parse file system firewall rules
LIBRARY
File System Firewall Interface Library (libugidfw, -lugidfw)
SYNOPSIS
#include <ugidfw.h>
int
bsde_parse_rule(int argc, char *argv[], struct mac_bsdextended_rule *rule, size_t buflen, char *errstr);
int
bsde_parse_rule_string(const char *string, struct mac_bsdextended_rule *rule, size_t buflen, char *errstr);
DESCRIPTION
The bsde_parse_rule() function parses an argument vector (e.g. argv as passed to main()) into rule. If an error occurs, *errstr is filled in
with the error string (up to errlen characters, including the terminating NUL).
The bsde_parse_rule_string() function is identical to bsde_parse_rule(), except that it parses a single string rather than an array of argu-
ments.
RETURN VALUES
The bsde_parse_rule_string() and bsde_parse_rule() functions return 0 if successful; otherwise the value -1 is returned and the value of
*errstr is filled in as documented in DESCRIPTION.

Introduction
Originally, we only had one shell on unix. When ran a command, the shell would attempt to invoke one of the exec() system calls on it. It the command was an executable, the exec would succeed and the command would run. If the exec() failed, the shell would not give up, instead it... (3 Replies)

I have seen some misinformation regarding Unix file permissions. I will try to set the record straight. Take a look at this example of some output from ls:

Suppose I have a main() function with only one malloc statement allocating say some 1 gb memory. Also say my system has 1 gb of ram.
main()
{
malloc(1gb)
return(0)
}
The program above exits without freeing the memory.
In this case will the 1 gb of heap memory be returned... (9 Replies)
I see lot of ad-hoc shell scripts in our servers which don't have a shebang at the beginning .
Does this mean that it will run on any shell ?
Is it a good practice to create scripts (even ad-hoc ones) without shebang ? (16 Replies)
