fmit - Free Music Instrument Tuner SYNOPSIS
fmit There are no command line options. DESCRIPTION
The Free Music Instrument Tuner (fmit) is a graphical sofware for tuning your music instrument using QT as gui library. For the sound input library you can choise to use ALSA or JACK. fmit contain all features of a standard hardware instrument tuner. You choise the tuning frequency corresponding at your tuning note, and when you play it, fmit display your error margin. Other views are availables, corresponding to more advanced and specific features like a microtonal tuning with more precision about you error margin, and a view of the harmonics ratio. Currently 6 views are availables: 1 A small view of the captured sound. 2 An history of the pitch error. 3 An history of the sound volume. 4 The shape of the wave-length. 5 Harmonics ratio (the formants). 6 A microtonal tuning view. BUGS
Please send bug reports or any other feedback to the fmit mailing-lists: <fmit-user@gna.org> : For bug reports and other problems. <fmit-cvs@gna.org> : For CVS commits. Or contact Gilles DEGOTTEX <gilles.degottex@net2000.ch>. AUTHOR

NAME
gtkguitune - KGuitune SYNOPSIS
gtkguitune DESCRIPTION
This manual page documents briefly the gtkguitune program. This manual page was written for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution because the original program does not have a manual page. Guitune is a linux program for tuning guitars and other instruments by using the method of Schmitt-triggering, i.e. counting the number of triggerings between two trigger levels in a certain amount of time. With FFT you need many samples to archieve the accuracy needed for tuning instruments. You often get times of around 1 second between two measurements and the computer is quite busy in this second calculating the FFT. Using Schmitt-triggering you get a measurement every 10th of a second or even less (depending on the sample frequency you use). Most of the time the computer only waits for the samples. The Trigger levels are adjustable. For a pure sine-wave the trigger levels could be zero. But for a wave wth overtones like the one in the figure above you need a non-zero triggerlevel. It is preadjusted to a level of 60% of the current maximum which should be able to deal with most instruments. SEE ALSO
