update-notifier - daemon which notifies about package updates.
SYNOPSIS
update-notifier [OPTIONS...]
DESCRIPTION
update-notifier puts an icon in the user's notification area when package updates are available.
OPTIONS -h, --help
Shows help options.
--debug-hooks
Enable hooks debugging.
--debug-updates
Enable updates/autolaunch debugging.
--debug-inotify
Enable inotify debugging.
--debug-firmware
Enable firmware debugging.
--force
Force start even if the user is not in the admin group.
--force-use-gksu
Force running all commands (update-manager, synaptic) with gksu.
--startup-delay
Delay startup by given amount of seconds.
--display=DISPLAY
X display to use.
In addition, the usual GTK+ and GNOME command line options apply. See the output of --help for details.

SYNOPSIS
update-manager [options]
DESCRIPTION
Update-manager is a frontend for the apt package management system. It allows you to perform some actions of the command line tool apt-get
in a graphical environment.
Update-manager is especially designed for upgrading your system, or migrating your system towards a more recent version.
OPTIONS
For a daily use, you may launch update-manager with no options so that your system is just upgraded.
For migration purposes, update-manager accepts some options:
-h, --help
Show a similar help message
-c, --check-dist-upgrades
Check if a new distribution release is available
-d, --devel-release
Check if upgrading to the latest devel release is possible
-p, --proposed
Try to run a dist-upgrade
--dist-upgrade
Try to run a dist-upgrade
ACTIONS PERFORMED DURING AN UPGRADE TO A NEW VERSION
* eventually reinstall the package ubuntu-desktop
* switch to an updated sources.list entries
* adds the default user to new groups if needed

I'm trying to install libcvd libraries (running Ubuntu 10.10) but get errors, I guesss its saying I miss dc1394v1 and ffmpeg. Altough when looking in synaptic manager I appear to have ffmpeg and libdc1394 (version 2). When I do ./config, after all the checks, I get:
