Installing linux with windows vista

I have a laptop running on vista, I would like to install linux on it, but I dont have the disk space, so can I have external disk to install linux. Whether I will be able to do ?

Yes, you can do the. All you need to do is set your boot order to boot the external dirve before the internal disk and most modern distibutions will have no problems.

You mean to say that connecting my ext HDD and reboot to by setting the bios to boot from the ext HDD and install linux on it.

Will windows boot automatically without any problems if I remove ext HDD and if I need to use Linux I can plugin and restart the OS and set the bios to boot from ext HDD.
