Yep, for older linuxes you'll need the glibc patch and newer ones you'll need to update tzdata.

$ rpm -qa | grep -i tzdata
tzdata-2006m-3.el4

if an rpm isn't an option...rpm2cpio and cpio are your friend.

review current DST entries:
[root@myBOX share]# /usr/sbin/zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007
/etc/localtime Sun Apr 1 09:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Apr 1 01:59:59 2007 PST isdst=0 gmtoff=-28800
/etc/localtime Sun Apr 1 10:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Apr 1 03:00:00 2007 PDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-25200
/etc/localtime Sun Oct 28 08:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Oct 28 01:59:59 2007 PDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-25200
/etc/localtime Sun Oct 28 09:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Oct 28 01:00:00 2007 PST isdst=0 gmtoff=-28800

cd temp2

download tzdata rpm

rpm2cpio < tzdata-2007a-1.noarch.rpm > tzdata.cpio
cpio -i -d < tzdata.cpio

[root@myBOX temp2]# ll

drwx------ 3 jmcontre jmcontre 1024 Feb 6 15:17 usr

[root@myBOX temp2]# chown -R root:root usr

[root@myBOX temp2]# cd usr/share

[root@myBOX share]# ll

[root@myBOX share]# mv doc /usr/share/

[root@myBOX share]# mv /usr/share/zoneinfo /usr/share/zoneinfoOLD

[root@myBOX share]# mv zoneinfo /usr/share/

review updated DST entries:

[root@myBOX share]# /usr/sbin/zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007
/etc/localtime Sun Mar 11 09:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 01:59:59 2007 PST isdst=0 gmtoff=-28800

did you try the previous info for your 5.2?
rpm2cpio < tzdata-2007a-1.noarch.rpm > tzdata.cpio
cpio -i -d < tzdata.cpio

does 5.2 have a doc and zoneinfo under /usr/share?
