Freak' me aut .. ICECAST

I want to configure myself Icecast .. trying to stream muzic around the net , but it's freak's me out for many hours.

I downloaded source code for Icecast 2.3.1 .. ./configure ( download and install what I needed ) , ake , and make install .. I found finaly icecast.xml.in .. something like that , incecast config , and just rename it in icecast.conf and copy in /etc.

I try icecast -b -c /etc/icecast.conf and I receive no error , but .. port 8000 ( configured by be on the server .. wasen't in nmap localhost | grep 8000 output .. ). I don't find it. ..

neither /etc/init.d/icecast ..

Maybe someone can give me a valid , minimal icecast.conf , coz it's freacking me out . I also receive error's like this wehentrying to start it as root :

Quote:
ERROR: You should not run icecast2 as root
Use the changeowner directive in the config file
Starting as root , but in changeowner Ihave confgiured icecast user/group .. wht is going on ?

Weird. I'd run a strace on it to see what files it IS opening. When you build things from source and aren't careful to tell ./config what defaults to use, things use some pretty crazy defaults sometimes.
