winxp+ fc3= bsod

im sorry if this topics been repeated at many places on the net but i just couldnt find my answers . someone help me out fast! here is the situation in brief!

1. i have a 160 gb hdd. windows xp without service pack 1 does not have 48-bit LBA enabled and so it can recognize only 137 gb when it should actually recognize 152 gb by industry standards for a 160 gb hdd.
2. for obvious reasons i could not upgrade to XP with SP1.
3. i decide to use up the 137 gb for windows and the remaining 15 gb was recongnized when i was in the installation process of FC3. i was thrilled. fedora core is therfore installed on that 15 gb which windows did not recognize.
4. grub was also installed as the bootloader.

now when i get the boot menu and i choose 'other' to boot into win xp i get the blue screen.

here are the boot arguments: ( is that what they are called? i got them by hitting "e" on the selected operating sys at the boot menu):

fedora core 3:
root(hd0,2)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.9-1.667.img

other (win xp):
rootnoverify(hd0,0)
chainloader +1

suspect anything fishy? can someone help me out here

Tried fixing the MBR with the winXP boot cd recovery tools (I think the command is something along the lines of 'fixmbr' - just hit 'help' at the prompt - don't forget to re-install grub afterward)? Can you post the relevant blue screen snippets?

WinXP (Pre-SP) can't access beyond 137gb

It looks like the partition table is messed up beyond what WinXP can recognize. If fixmbr is successful and grub reinstalled, WinXP still won't boot because the partition table is written by fc3 to include the last 15gb beyond the 137gb barrier that WinXP (Pre-SP) can't access.

Looks like you are stuck with 137gb, unless you get SP-1 or SP-2. Otherwise, get a small hdd to install both OS, then update WinXP to SP-2 (download at microsoft site), then the 150gb of your 160gb will be all accessible. Or get a cheap PCI controller for the 160gb. Smilie
