Doubt on vmstat swpd colum

Dear Gurus,

When i ran vmstat, i am getting swpd value,but si, and so beneath the swap is o, My doubt what is the difference between these values,i,e swpd and si and so
OS is OEL 5.5

I am not sure about the swpd as I couldn't find documentation about it, but it looks to me, that this is the summary, most probably since last boot, of the amount of memory that has been swapped in and out to swap space.
si and so are definetly the current number of memory units being swapped in and out to disk.
You could issue swapon -s to see a summary of the used swap space. Maybe you can get the values you see into relation.

Another good place to look at is the man page on your system for vmstat. Look for swpd.
