I just screwed up!!
Ok, trying to increase the security of my Linux box, I put /sbin/nologin under roots entry in the etc/passwd file. I copied the old passwd file before making this change, but didnt set perms the way I should have. SO now my normal user has NO rights to change the passwd file and ROOT cannot login...period. I wanted to make it so there were no SSH logins by root so the users had to SU to root, but I think i just screwed the pooch. I didnt know that when you did that, you couldnt even SU to root. Is there any way I can get the passwd file back?? Maybe go to a run level 3 and edit the file?? Anythng else??
