Glad it finally worked, that sounds pretty frustrating. At least I just had to deal with it once.

As far as the bar goes, it depends on what desktop environment you choose. When you get the login screen there is a "sessions" link at the bottom. Click that and choose the one you want. The closest to Windows is Gnome (in my opinion, not trying to start a flamewar!). Give that a try first and also try the other choices. Gnome and KDE are most popular. I like XFCE since it is lean and mean and I have pretty crappy computers. :-)

I have a question too :
I installed Fedora core 3. I am wondering if there is a way I can use the files I already have under Windows(I have Windows server 2003) . Since both OS' file systems are different, is there any way I can use the files I have in windows, because they still sit on the same hard dirve. I want to access the files I have under windows.
