Back to Gensis

Alright, I have a server which I pay for and is co-located. Therefore, I can only access it over the internet via ssh. I have totally screwed this machine up and just want to set it back to the factory defaults - or rather how it came installed. It came with the standard RH Linux 7.3 server install. Is there any way I can do this over ssh ?

Thanks,
Robert

If you made a backup before editing any configuration files, then restore from those. Hopefully you made copies of your configuration files before editing the originals.
I will guess you did not do either of those.
There is no way to "restore" you system back to "factory defaults" without the backups. Once you edited a file, it's edited, you can go back and remove all the changes you made.
I would suggest you contact your host provider, ask them to resolve your issues.
Then you should always, before editing a config file, make a backup, or better yet, see if you can add your configuration files into CVS.

Thanks for the response. 'tis what I thought. Let me tell you, I wish everbody in the company did not have root access, then maybe something like this wouldn't happen. I just wanted to pick your brain, as it will cost $50 for them to reinstall the system.

C'est la vie!
Merci,
Robert
