Linux Installation problem

Masters,

I really need help here.... I had to format my system so my installed Linux goes away..

Now I am trying to fresh installation, but stuck at one point, did RND for 2-3 days but no luck, hence posting here....

I am stuck on the "installation method" step..As I am trying to install from external DVD wrtr so I have chossen "Hard drive"....Now in "Directory holding Images" I have given "/" ,"islinux", "images" ,"e:"(my dvd drive is E: on xp) , and some other option but no luck...Even I tried F2 option here but nothing happened..

Please let me know how I can start my instalation..I really messed up with this.

I'm a bit confused by your explanation (that's normal for me though).

Your not just booting from an ISO image on the DVD?

You've given us no details... What distro are you trying to install? I suspect but can't be sure without more details that 'hard drive' is the wrong choice: You may be telling it you have installation files on the hard drive, not that you want to install on a hard drive. It's not like you could install on something else anyway, so the question's probably asking where you have your media -- cd/dvd.

I have chossen "installation method" as hard drive and press Ok....now new screen came as "Select Partition", and the text wrtn here as:

"What partition and directory on that partition hold the CD(iso9660) images for red hat enterprise linux server? If you don't see the disk drive you're using listed here, press F2 to configure additional device."

Then I have a directory listed as /dev/hda1 and a text box as:

Directory holding images: ---------------

1) I put / and other option on this this text box(including sr and sr0 as suggeted above) and got below message:
"Device /dev/hda1 does not appear to contain Red hat Enterprise Linux Server CDROM images"(When I enter /)
"Failed to read directory /tmp/hdimage/sr : No such file or directory"(When I enter sr,sr0,e:, etc)

2)I pressed F2 to see other devices and got new screen as "Driver disk Source"

"You have multiple devices which could serve as source for a drive disk. Which would you like to use?"

and I have 2 option here "hdc" and "hda" but none worked..

This was my problem...but it resolved after I tried many options..It was just to remove cable of my inbuilt CD drive and then using the usb one...

What if it's not asking you where you want to install, but where your disk is? I repeat: Hard drive installation may not be what you want if your installation media isn't on hard drive!
