GFS2 needed or not?

Hey everyone. I am in the process of setting up an iSCSI SAN to function as a log storage device for a number of servers. All of the initiators see the volume, and originally I formatted it with ext3 and went on my merry way. However after some research I'm having concerns that I should nuke the ext3 partition and move it to something like GFS/GFS2. Is this overkill? Considering I don't know how many devices will be writing to the volume I'm not really sure what to do. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Overkill for what? We know nothing about your intended use patterns. Or how you're sharing it, for that matter.

ext3(and the newer ext4) are good, highly-reliable, general-purpose filesystems with quite reasonable performance under many conditions and can be tuned to behave a little better for certain other conditions. I don't imagine much of an issue with it unless your use patterns really torture it somehow, or you're doing strange things with the actual disk device, or you just plain need awesomely fast performance.
