How to configure daylight saving time

Hi,

I have few doubt on daylight saving.

Can any one clarify the below points.
1) How to configure daylight saving(DLS) time ?
2) How to query DLS ?
3) If i set DLS(say some how) will it be autometically changed or user has to manually change system time ?

I got few info on net about 'zdump' & /etc/sysconfig/clock but still i am not clear with above points.

DST is just a way of reporting time/date. You never change the actual time on the system. The sytem takes time from the kernel as the number of seconds since Janaury 1 1970. It then applies rules to that value to display the adjusted time and date value.
Basically it adds or subtracts time from UTC. It does not change the system clock, just interprets.

What time zone is your computer set to be in? Does that timezone have DST or not?

I am from India, here there is no DST
Working for Germany, they are going to apply DST in coming days.

My doubt is,
How it will behave on transtion time ?

As per you it will autometically reflect time with DST. Am i right ?

It is not "per me" it is per the POSIX standards for UNIX timekeeping.

Do not fiddle around with anything. You will break cron, at and other programs like schedulers - AppWorx for instance.

Here is how UNIX keeps time:
Unix time - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And yes - it will automatically seamlessly show the correct time and date one second before and one second after the "time change".
