I want to know how to find a node path of a unix command. I tried the command which, but it didn't find the "makekey" command node path... Are there any tricks about the "which" command? Should I use this command on a special level of directories? Moreover, I am accessing in remote the computers of my university, would this change anything?
Comments, if i do "which perl", it tells me "/bin/perl", so which works... and makekey is supposed to be on the station...

I found the command makekey in /usr/lib, but appearently, which is looking in the PATH variable in the which /usr/lib isn't. So what option on which or what other command should I use to reach makekey in /usr/lib?

makekey is not intended to be run by a user. It's a program that is used by other programs (or was used... it's not used much anymore). Programs like that do not belong in the PATH anywhere. And the "which" command primarily looks at stuff on the PATH.

Redhat does not have "makekey" that I can find. Which distro are you using?

HP-UX does still have a makekey. They have a man page for it too. And the man page gives the path. Did you try "man makekey"?

The only other option would be "find".

Ok, I'm using Putty to access remotely to the server of my University. Thing is it is a Sun Solaris. And there is makekey in /usr/lib. But no makekey in the man pages, even if I go in the proper directory (/usr/lib). I just found where it was because i looked through google the man pages and as you said it was written /usr/lib... Can you tell me more about find?

You really should post Solaris questions in the Solaris forum, not in the linux forum. And I know "find" has a man page. Use "man find".
