Question Setting up BIND with dynamic IP

I'm a UNIX newbie, so I know I'll be making foolish errors here...

I'm trying to set up my Mac OS X 10.2 server to serve my domain name. [Caphector.com, currently hosted by Hostsave.com] I've got Apache running reasonably well [It needs to be restarted after a system restart or it gives a 404], and I know Sendmail is up and running...

Now, I seem to need to get BIND running for the domain name, and it seems to need a static IP for the BINDing but I've got a dynamic IP for my local server so I'm planning to use Afraid.org for my DNS server.

However, I've been seeing some people saying that I need to run BIND as a local DNS server and/or that I need to set my machine as the primary DNS for the domain name.

Which leads to the second problem: Mail sent via Sendmail to/from my server doesn't get delivered. Mailq is empty, and I don't get any "your message wasn't delivered" messages. I can send to the server because caphector.no-ip.info is redirected to it. At least, I think I can....

So, how/why do I setup BIND, and what's wrong with Sendmail?

Domain servers in listed order:
NS1.HOSTSAVE.COM
NS2.HOSTSAVE.COM
NS3.HOSTSAVE.COM
NS4.AFRAID.ORG
I would suggest that you set up your /etc/resolv.conf file to point at one of these name servers.

Here is an example of how to set up resolver (part of bind, as you point out) for your network:

Code:
search CAPHECTOR.COM
nameserver 207.150.196.199
nameserver 207.150.197.103

The nameservers above need to have correct DNS A and PTR records for your hosts, BTW.

I'll try that...makes sense that I'd need to add the DNS servers to my resolv.conf. I'll remember that when I switch my DNS to point at my home server.

Thanks for the answer, Neo. I know how busy you are running this board.
