root login password

Lightbulb root login password
Hello Guys,

We are using Sco Unix 5.0
While we was changing root password from scoadmin, It did not change the password and hang in between.
Now, I am unable to login as root user

pls. do suggest me how can i skip root password and how can i goto root to change the password again.

Or if their is any alternate to go into root # prompt

waiting for ur prompt reply

when you get on as root, use the passwd command to change the pw... it seems to work a little more reliably.

If you are using a liscensed SCO version of UNIX, you can do one of several things. 1) Contact SCO directly - www.sco.com - and pay a fee to have them recover the root password - OR - 2) Re-install the O/S and MAKE CERTAIN that you Choose the Update/Refresh O/S Option and PRESERVE Disk Layout and Filesystems. Oh... I would NEVER not have a password for my root user.

i agree! but....
i agree with the two things but be sure to make a password for root coz root has all the access in the system and if no password someone might hack on to your system ok.

I've an LPAR set up on a P690. The LPAR ran AIX v5.2. I then did an upgrade (using the migration option) to AIX v5.3. Hello all, I've a problem with root login password in Solaris. After I installed a patch the root password became empty, so to login as root I don't have to type any password, just username: root.
