cofiguring cable modem in red hat 7.1

It was easy in mandrake, but i don't know how in red hat. I have an Allied Telesyn AT2400/ET

If it's possible in mandrake then i know it's possible in red hat.

Is the cable modem plugged into a network card in your computer? If so, you can configure that network card using "linuxconf" or "ifconfig"

If you have dynamic ip maybe you just have to configure you net card with pump:

#pump -i <your net interface>

Hope it helps

similar question

I am having similar problem. I have a Red Hat Linux 7 on PC and was trying very hard to setup internet connection.

I use a router with out-of-box DHCP configuration. The thing is my Red Hat Linux PC would not detect anything from my eth0.

I tried netconfig and selected DHCP option, then a message "sending request for IP information..." showed up. I waited for a while then the message disappeared and I still did not see any IP information.

I tried pump -s and pump -i eth0 but they all returned "Operation failed"

I also tried netcfg, netconf, and ifconfig, but nothing worked out.

It's just frustrating because I changed my Linux Hard Drive to a Windows Hard Drive and I have access to the Internet so I know my router setup is fine and it has to be my Linux setup.

I would appreciate if anyone could help me!

Tools answer to my own question

What caused my problem: my NIC does not support Linux.

How I found out: ifconfig -a and notice both my TX and RX are 0 and my TX receives lots of errors.

So I get another Netword Interface Card and tried again.

It feels sooooooooooo good surfing the Internet using my Red Hat Linux!!!
