Network How do I activate an interface on a Solaris 10

Help!

How do I get (configure) an inteface up in order to get access to the internet? System in use is SPARC Ultra 5 - it worked before but not now when I re-installed the system and forgot to connect the RJ45 cable to the interface.

You use the ifconfig command to bring up the interface. That does it "live". If you want to set it up to be on the network every time it boots you'll have to edit several files including /etc/hosts, /etc/hostname.hme0, set up your name service, etc.

If you really just built the box, I'd almost say reinstalling the OS after plugging in the cable and giving it the network info it asks for is easiest. That way you're sure not to miss anything and spend hours troubleshooting some obscure entry in a file you missed doing it by hand.

On Solaris 8 and 9 you can do a "sys-unconfig" as root. Reboot and then it will ask you all the necessary info.

Yeah, use sys-unconfig instead of rebuilding the OS from scratch. Sorry I had a brain-freeze and didn't mention that. And I even used sys-unconfig several times last week to reconfig boxes for a new network . . . .
