Router Advertisement..

Hi,
When two Linux hosts are connected without any routers
And when Router Advertisement is issued what is the use of of it??
Basically I found Router Advertisements are meant to find End Nodes
Is this true?
Or Router Advertisements are meant only for RoutersSmilie?

I am not one of the network guys, but from reading the Wikipedia entry to that topic and RFC 1256, I doubt there is any usage of those Router Solicitation Requests sent by the hosts as there are no routers available in your network.
These Requests would ask routers in the neighbourhood to send out an advertisement, which will not have any effect in your case.
But maybe someone else can confirm or shed some more light on it Smilie

The question needs to be phrased in terms of routing algorithms and dynamics. For a host to "advertise a route" it must be running a routing process associated with one or more dynamic routing protocols. Some routing protocols are quite simple, some are quiet complex.

Which routing process / protocol are you talking about, Priya Amaresh?

Also, do the linux hosts act as a router, or only an end node?

If any end node, does it have a single Internet gateway, or multiple gateways?
