Hi gyanu..

In previous posts, DB has tried with commands like 'more', 'vi' and 'cat'. Well this is exactly how we read 'ascii' files in hp-ux. 'strings' too is not working for you.
How do you make out that the file you want to read is an 'ascii' file??Smilie

Check the permissions (may be its an executable file that we are trying to read Smilie).
Also share if you have any idea about the process/application the file is related to.

Hey UniRock, in his first post, he says that he checked with the file command like,

#file <filename> and gets an output that the file is an ascii text.

And yes UniRock is right, as he says, can we have information on what this file is exactly about? If this file is related to an application or process, what is that would be the question?

Am sorry, however, according to me, Perderabo should be right here I guess. What if the file exactly has the content which it displays?

Or, even this may be a probability that the file is corrupted. Do you have a backup of that particular file? So, we can try restoring the file and see what happens.

One more option to try. Ftp that file to a windows machine you use and see if it opens. We have some more easy options to check if we can open that file. We can also try using web to find an appropriate tool to open, or atleast to check what kinda file is that.

If everything fails, am sorry!
