How can we know that the server was rebooted by which user in hp unix and linux.

You cant really, you can find some explanations in files like syslog.log etc..
Just to show:
from /etc/shudownlog:
20:09 Fri Sep 15, 2006. Reboot: (by ant!vbe)
18:38 Tue Sep 26, 2006. Reboot:
19:24 Mon Dec 18, 2006. Reboot:
19:40 Mon Dec 18, 2006. Reboot:
15:00 Sat Mar 15, 2008. Reboot: (by ant!ogad)
19:13 Wed May 21, 2008. Reboot:
ant:/ $

If you were to type shutdown, it would appear here.. why some with nothing, well the case of may 21,2008 gives me the solution: I patched the box and some patches necessitated a reboot after kernel build...
But I know also that some cases I find no trace of...

In Windows we can check the event viewer for entries 6005,6006,6009 to confirm the system down times, as in when it got down and when it came back up.
