printer spewing out endless copies

I've set up a remote IP-addressed printer using lpadmin on a hp-ux server. It is - as far as I can tell - identical to another printer on the system of the same model type. The default printer works fine with the lp command; the new printer sends endless copies and the job has to be cancelled at the printer. The printer works fine from all other servers. Any ideas gratefully received. I can send any config files etc. if required.

I had a similar problem. Users were reporting that many documents were always reprinting. I had to disable JOB RECOVERY (OFF) and that solved the problem. For some reason, they were some problem during the data transfer but NO pages or parts of a page were lost.

I have seen minor network issues cause this on IP printers. As stated above. If job recovery is enabled it will execute a reprint from the beginning of the entire print job. You can also run into this with remote queues. For instance Netware will behave the same way, so you could have a remote queue already having dumped its job to the netware file and print machine. That machine then has a connectivity issue with the printer, and you end up with reprints coming from seemingly nowhere if you try to troubleshoot it only at the UNIX level.

calculating endless columns
