Java vi editor hangs process on HP-UX J6700

I have an HP J6700 using an Emulex L9002 fc 2gb HBA .
The OS is 10.26 secured OS for Military applications.
When we run a vi editor on our internal disk the 512k it works fine (internal disk is 18gb).
When I run it on a external raid it hangs the process.
its not hanging the raid but the process. I log in the server again and I can read to the raid and copy files.
I removed the raid controller not its just JBOD 16 disk (73gb) are showing up in my OS.
Ran the test again with the same results. So I know its not the raid controller causing this issue.

I ran a "more" using the same file no problem.

Has anybody seen this type of problem.
Is there this a problem in memory?
Does HP-UX 10.26 support 2gb fibre?

The HP J6700 has 64 bit cpu's and HP-UX 10.2x is a 32 bit OS. Some 64 bit systems supported the use of 32 bit OS's. This was never true of the J6700.

Does HP-UX 10.20 can be supported on J6750?

Your workstation does not support your OS. But your OS is not supported on any hardware for that matter. It will work better if you downgrade to older hardware. Whether or not the Emulex will work, I cannot say. You may need to downgrade the array too so it uses scsi rather than fibre channel.

But now, let's examine this statement: "The OS is 10.26 secured OS for Military applications." I can't find any trace of 10.26, and if it exists, it certainly has no military level security. It does not matter how secure an os is, it achieves "military level security" after it has been certified. While I am not an expert in military level security, I can look at a list of evaluated systems and observe that there nothing called HP-UX 10.26 present. With the old Orange Book TCSEC ratings, on the site http://www.radium.ncsc.mil/tpep/epl/epl-by-vendor.html I see a rating for HP-UX 8.04 and HP-UX 9.09+. No sign of 10.26 there. Also here is some text from the 9.09+ rating:
Quote:
Hewlett Packard's HP-UX BLS (B Level Security) is HP's version of a UNIX operating system that is designed to meet the Department of Defense Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria for a B1 class rating. The vendor claims that HP-UX BLS is designed to be compatible with the System V Interface Definition 2 and IEEE POSIX 1003.1 and 1003.2 standards. HP-UX BLS also includes important features from Berkeley Software Distribution 4.3. It runs on the following models of HP9000 Series 700 workstations: S705, S710, S712, S715, S720, S725/50, S725/75, S730, S735,S750, S755.
Because J6700 is not mentioned in the above paragraph, you cannot install 9.09+ on your workstation and get a B-1 trusted system. The rating applies to to systems, not to OS's.

I think the new Common Criteria has completely superceded the old ratings. I haven't been keeping up with the new CC stuff, but with a bit of googling, I was able to find: HP-UX 11i has a EAL4-CAPP rating. To verify that: the list of evaluated products shows HP-UX 11i with a EAL4 rating. (Higher numbers mean more testing, but what is tested is that the product meets its security target.) The HP-UX 11i security target contains the claim "The TOE conforms to [CAPP]." (The target of evaluation conforms to the controlled access Protection Profile.) Thus HP-UX 11i has a EAL4-CAPP rating. The CAPP was written by the National Security Agency description of capp. The NSA tells us that CAPP is roughly equal to the old C2 rating. But now there are various levels of testing an OS, it's not just pass/fail anymore.

But even on the CC website, no mention of 10.26 either. HP did have a "virtual vault" release that was 10.2x, but I don't think 10.26 sounds right. "Virtual vault" was aimed at internet commerce which is a far cry from "military". And anyway 11.04 was also a virtual vault release and it can do 64 bits. So I really am not sure of what OS you have. Smilie
