AFAIK it does have DDS tape device but I have never actually seen the unix box it is in another office on the other side of the city. I know they had some issue with drive failure but no one want to spend any money on the system but its great for old GIS records
I ask you that because I hope you have a complete Ignite-UX installed! This is to make a bootable OS tape, you can use to reconfigure or recover the system, then you use ordinary backup for the rest... Thats of course up to you...
The interesting thing about what you produced so far if not complete shows:
You seem to have 2 controllers and I wonder if these 2 sets of disks are not the ones in mirror...
The system died a few years ago and they struggled to find a working backup tape. The had to get the old system admin out of retirement. I'm just worried it will happen again and we lose all the information.I am only learning as I go with unix but it been fun. It was a pretty advanced GIS system Mountaintop not far off what we use today Smallworld.
390MB of RAM isnt much... this system has a limit of 2GB... I should still have some RAM somewhere at home...
I think when you have time to spare we should go through slowly but keep in mind that years I havent touched one and my memory plays bad tricks lately
You would need to see if Ignite is installed:
Only I seen many systems with the soft but the soft was not in the PATH, you will find it in /opt :
Then if someone can put some DDS in the drive to see if it works...
We need to know what are the mirror disks...
We can change the way the system uses its memory but for that I suppose /stand need to be bigger than its actual size (in /stand is there a vmunix.prev file ? ).
We need to see on what disk it boots and get a spare one in case ( they are getting rare and you will find mostly refurbished.
I gave away my lasts D class to CERN because they have a lot still running and need spares for another 6 months - 1 year, I learned by CERN you have to be carefull with the power supply, it has a special fan impossible to find on the market (but I have in my garage 2 D260 ...)
I think you had enough for today...
Hey all,
What do you think mostly happened in the following situation?
I have a Red Hat 5.5 server. Someone, somehow, managed to get two .nfs000.... type files that totaled over a terabyte in size. I removed them and thought things were back to normal. Then I started getting complains from... (2 Replies)
Hi,
In order to have a sand box machine that I could use to test some system changes before going to production state, I'd like to duplicate a working system to a virtual one. Ideally, I'd like to manage to do it this way :
- Make a full system backup excluding the user file system (this... (7 Replies)

Hi All,
There was a background process running on a Solaris 2.8 machine, and appeared to have filled all available disk-space. I done a killall, and upon re-booting found that the file system had filled up, and will not boot as normal as a result. For example, I'm getting
/usr/adm/messages: No... (8 Replies)
