You must not have read the pages that plimpix linked in the second article in this thread. I thought that was good information. So I get the feeling that you won't read my links either. Smilie

Oh well, in case anyone is interested, the HP web site has HP Visualize c200 Workstation Manuals (guides, supplements, addendums, etc) which has a complete set of manuals including Model C160 / C180 / C200 / C240 Owner's Guide which describes how to replace the disk drive.

Question Boot interaction

Hi Corrail,

Many thanks for your suggestion and your interest in my problem.

Having read what you recommended, I pulled out the casing, which holds hard disk, cdrom and floppy drive (front panel) and I seen tow ribbons one a grey (bluish) colour wide with two rows of 25 hols at one end with a little tag saying “single ended scsi - drive” connected to the disk drive and the end way saying “single ended scsi - disk interface board”.

I pulled this ribbon off and powered up the machine and to my surprise kernel was loaded as usual CDE appeared and ready to login. On this ribbon was written:

LL31941 CSA AWM I A 105C 300V FT-1

The second ribbon, a narrow one and whit colour and written on it:

20297 CSA AWM I A 105C 150 FT-1 SPECTRA-STRIP FAST 20/40 -SCSI RL AWM STYLE.

I don not know how to locate the IDE cable, but will I be looking in the motherboard tomorrow as it's now half past one in the morning at my neck of wood.

Please if you can shed some light as to how I can locate this “IDE” cable and furthermore by disconnecting this cable, would I be able to power up this machine and get to the MA> prompt as was suggest by our friend Awadhesh?

Once again many thanks for your time and all others who will be showing an interest.

Re

go to link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/su...5/lpv37955.pdf

Find the h/w manual, or just try to unplug the disk (if many disconnect all) and recycle the power.
when system boots it searches for bootable device, when it will not find this device it halts on MA> prompt.

u can take help of some other experinced H/W engr to do this activity.

Cheers,

Awadhesh

Power Boot interaction (post 4)

Awadhesh and Perderabo,

My thanks to both of you for sending me the link and your suggestion.

I spent a grate deal of time today, reading the HP Visualize c200 Workstation Manuals and must say did not find an indication as to how and where (in storage tray assembly or in main tray assembly) unplugging the disk.

Furthermore, I am not clear with “recycle power” notion, do you mean:
A - unplug the disk while power is off (provided if I can locate & identify connector)
B - turn the power on to allow searching for bootable device and getting to MA> prompt and then do the SEA and the rest?

It is a bit hard if you do not know what is where but I must admit I found the link very interesting.

I posted a thread to Corrail and I do not know if any of you had time to look at it. Please take a look at it. It might help you to help me with my approach for resolving this problem.

Once again many thanks for your time and all others who will be showing an interest.

Cheers

Question Boot interaction (post 5)

Hi Awadhesh,

Thanks for your response on "power recycle". But in my message I was more concerned with the correctness of the sequence after finding out how to physically disconnect the bootable device.

Although, I am thankful for the response from you and all others, but I still do not know where to look in main tray assembly or in storage tray assembly and disconnect the Hard disk, if this is, what to be done in order to get to MA> prompt as you are suggesting.

As I mentioned, I my firs thread, I am new with HP-UX and therefore I am having this difficulty. I feel, I only can resolve this to get a set of instruction (step by step approach) indicating exactly where to look and what to do. Is it possible that you provide me with the instruction? I have already checked the Esc Key. It is fine.

Well, thanks again for responding to my mail and I look forward to hearing from you again hopefully this time with a set of instructions that would help me resolving this problem.

Cheers

Hi Perderabo,

As you are aware, I am having a problem with my HP-UX 200c workstation, (cannot interrupt the boot process) and asked for help. So far I posted 5 threads and number of people including you kindly responded with suggestion and in some cases provided me with some links. Although I found these links very useful, but regretfully, cannot find the answer that I am looking for and to resolve this problem. As mentioned in one of my positing to Awadhesh, I only can tackle this, if I am provided with a clear instruction (step by step) as I am new with HP hardware and to some extent also with software.

I noticed that you are quite active on the forums and helping others. Is it possible to send me a clear instruction (a favour) so that I can interact with the boot process and be able to use my machine?

Once again many thanks for your help and those who will be showing an interest

Regards,

M.A
