HP-UX version 11.22i is the only one that works on an Intel platform. And you need 64bit processors for that (XEON and stuff). So it would not work on a "common PC", which would be a 32 bit system.
Also, you said that you have a HP 9000 box. So you can learn HP-UX on that system, while you install Linux on your PC to learn how *nix works in general. (*nix means linux or unix - solaris, hp, etc)
