Help reserving UID ranges?

We have recently merged 2 old systems onto a newer Itanium platform. As part of this work we merged the password files and assigned new UID's beginning from 1000. I have a user add script that admins can use to add a user, however this assigns the next available UIB (in the low 100's) rather than 1000 upwards.
Does anyone know how I can either reserve UID's 1 - 1000, or script so the useradd only adds from the next available UID above 1000?
Thanks in advance,
Tom.

Since it can be done using SAM, I would suggest you configure SAM in such a way then look at SAM logs to see how it is done...

How is it done in SAM? You can view by range but not block UID groups?
Thanks Tom.

Can you post your "user add" script.

The unix HP-UX "useradd" command will take a "-u UID" parameter. It is not difficult to modify a script which invokes "useradd" to ensure that the UID is one UID greater than the highest UID in /etc/passwd.
If this was a virgin system you'd need to create an account with a UID of 1000 to seed the process.
