make_tape_recovery

Hi,

im not so familiar with make_sys_image. We are yousing mak_recovery. So you will get an bottable image on tape! It contains with the options -AvC all what you need vor the vg00.

I hope it helps....

Depending on your setup, the easiest thing may be to login to the ignite box, run 'ignite' and use the gui that appears. If I recall correctly you can include/exclude stuff and also initiabe the image from there.

I'm not familiar with making system image, but you can backup your vg using make_tape_recovery, the command as follows:

make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg<vg_number>

this will backup the whole volume group. You can also check the log file under the directory of ignite, recovery/latest/recovery.log

MySQL make_sys_image

make_sys_image is used to create the Golden Image from a Machine which is supposed to be "Clean OS Installed". A Clean OS is the an OS which had all the applications installed and configured as required. The idea of making the Golden Image is to use this for installing the OS using Ignite with ease of configuration after the OS installation. Installing the client can be done from the ignite Server and or from the client (ISL prompt).

i2admin,

I am an HPUX admin as well. I dont know if you got a resolution to this, but I will post anyway...

make_sys_image is typically used for cloning. It does not work the same way as make_tape_recovery. It is meant more to make additional servers where you manipulate, Install tapes is what it is meant to be used for...

Use make_sys_image to install a server

You stated you want to backup only vg00, then the make_tape_recovery is what you want.

The best use for make_sys_image is when you are cloning boxes... make_tape_recovery is best used for backup and recovery of individual systems... although it can be used for cloning as well, but you will have to modify host specific data, IP, hostname... etc...
