UNIX upgrading?

Right now we are using HP-UX 11i

We are thinking of upgrading to 11i v3..

Questions:

Why would we want to upgrade? Benefits?
Do we need to install v2 and then v3 or can we just go straight to v3?

I see we can get the following:

HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment and applications
HP-UX v1 and v2 applications

HP-UX OE 11i v1 and v2 application update
HP-UX 11i v2 Virtual Partitions A.04.06

I am trying to learn UNIX administration as we do not have an administrator here at work. The person that does this would let me work with him, so I want to get an understanding of what needs to be done and why we would want to do it.

Thanks so much!

If your running on older hardware, alpha, v3 is not compatible.

I think we are ok.

# uname
HP-UX complus B.11.11 U 9000/800

# getconf MACHINE_MODEL
9000/800/rp4440

Thanks

The performance gain should make it a worthwhile upgrade

I read that you can not do an upgrade from just 11i to v3, it would need to be a cold install which we will never do. I assume I can not upgrade to v2, then to v3?

thanks

Why not?
How is vg00 configured? (internal disks in mirror?)

I am new to UNIX admin so am unsure how to answer your question. I just know that they said that a cold install would be too difficult to do?
