Backup Help

Use and complete the template provided. The entire template must be completed. If you don't, your post may be deleted!

1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data:
Mount a backup to NAS box.


2. Relevant commands, code, scripts, algorithms:
mount 192.168.1.222:/backups/fweb11 /mnt/nas
tar zcvf home.tar.gz /home > /backups/fweb11/homebackup.tar.gz



3. The attempts at a solution (include all code and scripts):
mount 192.168.1.222:/backups/fweb11 /mnt/nas
tar zcvf home.tar.gz /home > /backups/fweb11/homebackup.tar.gz

I know i need to mount, tar the dir, then unmount, need some guidance please. Script seems to loop.

Worth another look at this command. Shouldn't the output be going to somewhere in the mountpoint /mnt/nas ?

Tip: When testing the command sequence, try backing up one file rather than the whole of /home .

To unmount you need the unix "umount" command.
e.g.

Well, I created directories in /mnt/nas/ for the appropriate backup, but the nas machine and my regular fedora machines are both virtual machines and I am having trouble getting them to communicate. IP addresses are configured correctly as far as I can tell. Should there be tar files with those names within those directories?

backup a file and keep every version of the backup

I am trying to backup my .bash_history and I want to keep every version of the backup.
