i have used in the script the following

mailx -s "Subject" <mailid>
`cd /home/dse/----/--/`
`ls -lrt | grep -i qqqqq`

and below these line i need a attachment file from the same directory. What comman will be appropriate to use.

So when i execute the above it should generate a mail sending to respective person with the list of files specified with an attachment(any format).

If you search this site for "mailx attachment" there are many solutions posted.

The exact syntax depends on what Operating System and version you have and what Shell you are running (e.g. ksh, bash, Posix, csh, bourne).

The mailx command is actually designed to be interactive but you can pass it text and files down a pipeline.

The simplest form is:
echo "Hello" | mailx -s "Testing my mailx" myemailaddress@domain

Then with two bits of text in the message body.
(echo "Message 1" ; echo "Message 2") | mailx -s "Testing my mailx" myemailaddress@domain

We can build on this construct to add attachments (after they have been converted with the "uuencode" program).
