ext4 - ready for production system?
Gidday,

Are you using ext4 for production system? Or is it better to opt for a more
conservative strategy, like ext3 for instance?

What are your experiences?

For production, always opt for the conservative strategy.

Yeah, I know. But since I left the sysadmin scene about 2.5 years ago, I don't know how "off" I am regarding the current "state of the art". It occurred to me that ext4 is a relative recent development, just wanted to be sure.

The only major distribution that I know has already adopted ext4 is Ubuntu. And what I've been following on various reports on it, Theodor Tso is still adding and modifying features ,mostly, I think, because he's got (understandable) beef with the way KDE and GNOME use a huge load of very small files, and the way a lot applications use fsync() instead of fdatasync().

Generally, I'd advise against ext4 for a production system just yet.
